Tanoma is a turtle which is a symbol of long life for the Sumba people. I also created this motif in a contemporary style where at the top of the turtle I added the feel of ocean waves where turtles in Sumba are also threatened with extinction due to hunting by Sumbanese people to take turtle shells to make Tiduhai “Sumbanese women’s crowns so I want to convey that let the turtles live freely in their natural environment, namely in the vast ocean without hunting for the benefit of humans.
